ANATEL decree affects 3 broadcasters

Following an order from the National Telecommunications Agency, the analog signal was turned off in several locations

On December 31st, the analog television signal was turned off in dozens of cities in Piauí. Broadcasters like GlobeRecord and Band, which lead open channels, were directly affected.

This order was given by Anatel, also happening in municipalities in other states. The general shutdown should take place by 2025, when the switch to the digital antenna is complete.

According to G1, kits with replacement equipment are being made available free of charge to families benefiting from social programs, whose data is registered with CadÚnico. This request can now be made.

Despite the shutdown in Piauí, the Federal Government announced that the Ministry of Communications has extended the general closure date for analogue transmissions in 1,005 cities, to June 2025. The objective is for the population not to be left without a signal.

Since 2010, televisions have been manufactured using the digital channel. Those that are older, even those with a thin screen, needed to be converted to adapt to current technology.

What is the difference between analogue and digital TV?

The analog signal is already part of the past. And this, of course, can also be seen through the broadcast quality of broadcasters, such as Globo, Record and Band, which work on digitalization, offering a completely different image from its predecessor.

In a more technical way, analogue transmission used continuous electromagnetic waves, while digital transmission uses a stream of bits, in binary codes, also seen in the digital language of PCs, CDs, DVDs and cell phones, transforming sounds and colors into bits.
