Runner-up of BBB 24Matteus supports a solidarity kitty which will allocate resources to those affected by the heavy rains that have hit Rio Grande do Sul (RS) since the beginning of last week. According to the state’s Civil Defense, 55 people died as a result of the storms and 74 people are missing. The agency also highlights that another seven deaths must be confirmed.
Born in Alegrete (RS), Matteus has supported campaigns in favor of those affected by the rain and, within a few hours, the crowdfunding shared by him and other ex-BBBs accumulated millions of reais. This Sunday morning (5), the campaign, which has a target of R$15 million, raised R$12.6 million donated by more than 230 thousand people.
“I’m here to keep encouraging you, let’s keep donating, keep helping. God willing, we will help a lot of people. Thank you very much to everyone who has already donated, who is moving. I am very grateful from the bottom of my heart for everything you are doing, we are going to achieve many more things together”, said Matteus.
Situation in Alegrete
Last Wednesday (1st), Matteus explained that his city was also impacted by the rains. “Here in Alegrete, the water level is rising, a lot of people have been evacuated from their homes. There are people inviting me to come out and help so the water doesn’t wash people away,” he pointed out.
“And it’s something that you can’t control because it’s time, right? If you see a moment of sadness, don’t film it, try to help, don’t share it. Help […] I’ve already spoken to the kids who participated with me on Big Brother. Please help expand this message, don’t sit idly by”, he asks.
“I’m going to see if I can talk to Davi and Isabelle themselves to ask for help. I don’t deny myself anything, but I feel tied. Our state is being washed away, many cities,” she laments. The ex-BBB concludes: “Trying to save as many people as I can.” Davi and Isabelle, as well as Alane, Beatriz, Michel, Leidy Elin, Ráculo, Buda and other ex-BBBs, supported the campaign.
Storm in RS
The regions most affected by the rains in RS are: Central, Vale do Rio Pardo, Metropolitana, Serra Gaúcha and Vale do Taquari. More than 500,000 people are without water and there are more than 292 points without electricity.
Rio Grande do Sul decreed state of public calamity last Wednesday (1st), and governor Eduardo Leite stated that this will be “the biggest disaster in the history of Rio Grande do Sul”.
A Brazil’s navy sent teams, vessels, aircraft and vehicles to help with the rescue. A Brazilian air force sent two helicopters to rescue victims in cities isolated because of highway closures, such as Candelariafor example.
