Available on Netflix, the series has been arousing public interest due to its complex and intriguing story based on real events.

Currently, in first place among the most watched series among Brazilian Netflix subscribers, Bebê Rena has been intriguing and traumatizing the famous streaming audience for its dense and bizarre story, based on real events.

Directed and scripted by the protagonist of the series, actor Richard Gadd plays the role of Donny Dunn and portrays a complex experience he suffered after meeting a woman and surviving the true obsession of a stalker. The situation makes him relive other traumas from his past, putting them both in a dangerous relationship.

Why does Martha always sign as if she were forwarding texts from an iPhone?

Jessica Gunning is the actress responsible for playing the stalker Martha, a woman who, after going to the bar where Donny works, begins a fixation that lasts for 4 years. The actor, during all these years, had to deal with 350 hours of voicemails, 744 tweets, 46 Facebook messages, 106 pages of letters and 41,071 emails.

In addition to lying about her personal and professional life, in the thousands of emails she sent to Donny daily, Martha signed them with the phrase sent from my iPhonewhere, at the beginning of the series, we discover that they are actually being sent via a notebook.

The action could even go unnoticed, but the insistence of the signature is disturbing and even commented on by the protagonist. To better understand this detail, Dr. Becky Spelman, psychologist and founder of Private Therapy Cliniccommented in an interview with the magazine GlamorUK that the persistence of this action is directly linked to the construction of a character that Martha created to win Donny’s affection.

It is highly likely that Martha wrote ‘Sent from my iPhone’ at the end of the messages to create a perception of status or sophistication. She may have believed that being associated with the iPhone brand would improve her image or professionalism, and that this would increase the chances that Donny would find her attractive and desirable.

She further adds: “By creating a favorable impression, we build trust and credibility in relationships. Insecurities about self-esteem or fear of rejection may also have led Martha to try to impress Donny in this way..”

The action, in addition to being interpreted as Martha’s effort to preserve a certain identity for herself, also indicates mental health problems, as seen in the first episode when she tells Donny other false details about her life, such as her claim of being a busy lawyer, friend and advisor to important political figures.

Psychologist Dannielle Haig confirms this observation in an interview for the website LADbible: “The farewell is not so much about the actual device as about what it represents: a sense of belonging to a professional class and a world where it was respected and successful.”

“It’s an attempt to project an image of stability and normality in contrast to your current life”, concludes the psychologist.
