Brazil ended its participation in the Wheelchair Tennis World Cup this Sunday (12). In the competition held in Antalya, Turkey, the youth athletes lost to Japan in the dispute for bronze. In the bracket for 5th place, the Men’s Open tennis players were surpassed by Chile. Even with the defeats, the teams guaranteed a place in next year’s edition, as they finished the competition in 4th and 6th place, respectively. On Saturday (11), the Quad also guaranteed a place, while the Women’s Open will compete in the qualifiers.

Seeking the bronze medal in the junior category, Vitória Miranda opened the scoring for Brazil by beating Rio Okana with a double 6/2. However, the Japanese sought a draw with Ryuhei Tachibana’s victory over Luiz Calixto, 6/1 and 6/4. Then, in doubles, Tachibana and Yuma Takamuro turned the match around by defeating Miranda and Calixto 2-0 (6/3 and 6/1).

In the Men’s Open, Gustavo Carneiro played a balanced game against Jaime Sepulveda, but ended up being defeated in three sets: 4/6, 7/6 and 10-7. Daniel Rodrigues put Brazil back into contention by beating Brayan Tapia with splits of 6/4 and 7/6. In the decisive match, the Chileans beat Rodrigues and Bruno Makey 2-0 (6/4 and 6/1) and took 5th place.

This became the seventh consecutive edition that Brazil had athletes in all categories of the Wheelchair Tennis World Cup. The Men’s, Women’s and Quad teams were already qualified for the tournament. The Junior team competed in the competition through a wild card.
