Thiago Silva back to Fluminense: remember the Monster’s career
At the time, Thiago was at only his second club in his career, coming from Pedrabranca (at the time, RS Futebol Clube). For Ju, the defender played 29 games and three goals, being part of a historic team. 20 years ago, Juventude repeated their 2002 performance and had their best campaign in Série A, with seventh place.
Diniz, in turn, was going through a very different moment in his career. At 30 years old, the then midfielder already had spells at Juventus (SP), Guarani, Palmeiras, Corinthians, Paraná, Fluminense itself – where he won Carioca in 2002 – and rival Flamengo.
Amid the soap opera of negotiations between Thiago Silva and Fluminense, Diniz joined in the chorus for the return of number 3. In May 2023, the coach reinforced that the signing of Thiago would be a “giant gain in everything: quality, experience, presence”.
With the agreement, Thiago returns to Fluminense and will occupy the vacancy left by Nino, Conmebol Libertadores champion sold to Zenit (Russia). With the opening of the international window on July 10, Thiago will be able to play from the 18th round of the Brasileirão, and will be able to compete in the round of 16 of the Libertadores and Copa do Brasil, if Tricolor manages to qualify in both tournaments.
Fluminense returns to the field this Thursday, at 9pm, to face Colo-Colo in the fourth round of the Libertadores group stage. In the Brasileirão, after a 2-2 draw with Atlético-MG, Tricolor will face São Paulo on Monday, May 13, at Morumbi.
