Rio de Janeiro once again had the best of MMA at Farmasi Arena, with UFC 301 this Saturday (4). The main fight is the one that defines the organization’s flyweight champion, between Alexandre Pantoja and Steve Erceg

But before that, the preliminary card took place and the Brazilians demonstrated their performance inside the octagon, with several promising mixed martial arts artists seeking to prove themselves against their rivals and achieving good results in the early part of the card.

The victories…

Looking for his fifth consecutive victory, Joanderson Tubarão faced Jack Shore and showed the credentials that make him a promise in the featherweight division. Using grappling well in the first round, Tubarão put his rival against the fence and left no room for the Welshman to respond. In the second half, the Maranhão native continued well until he noticed a cut on Shore’s leg. When he shouted to the corner about the condition of his leg, the medical team took action and decided to suspend the fight and win the Brazilian by technical knockout.

Wanting to get a good start in the fight for the strawweight belt, Iasmin Lucindo faced former challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz. The Ceará native took no notice of the Polish veteran, both standing up and on the ground, avoiding exposing herself to her rival in every way. Especially on the ground, Iasmin shined and stopped Kowalkiewicz as best she could to confirm control of the actions and win her third consecutive UFC victory.

UFC debutant, Maurício Ruffy faced Jamie Mullarkey and barely suffered against the Australian. The Brazilian controlled the actions well and shook the Farmasi Arena audience with a big fall that preceded the knockout, originating from a series of blows that set the tone for the beginning of an important trajectory for the fighter,

Also making her UFC debut, Dione Barbosa fought against Ernesta Kareckaite, starting the fight well and imposing herself especially on the ground in the early stages. The Lithuanian even tried to resist as much as she could, having some moments of brilliance, but it was the Brazilian who controlled the fight, having the chance to land a heel hook in the second round and even giving way to her rival’s growth in the third and decisive round. . But nothing that would interfere with the life of the Pernambuco native, who won the victory.

Against veteran Vinc Pinchel, Ismael Marreta was another Brazilian who set the tone for success at UFC 301. Good at striking and getting better with his strikes, Marreta gave the American a hard time, who had moments of greater aggression, especially during the third round. But it was up to the fighter from Brasília to achieve greater success in the duel and win again.

Opening UFC 301, Alessandro Costa faced Peruvian Kevin Borjas and they had a closely contested fight, with a first round in which both invested heavily in striking and had a very balanced initial half. In the second round, the Brazilian’s leg kicks were felt by Borjas and Alessandro invested in it until he made his opponent fall. Then, he went for ground and pound and thus sealed the victory.

..and the defeats

Two other Brazilians stepped into the Octagon at UFC 301 and were not as lucky as their compatriots. Elves Brener faced Myktybek Orolbai, from Kyrgyzstan, and caused difficulties for his rival, especially in the second round, when the fighter from Chute Boxe Diego Lima (Charles do Bronx’s team) made things complicated for the Kyrgyz on the ground. But Orolbai, despite having lost a point in the second half for holding the cage, dominated and did enough to end the Amazonian’s undefeated streak, which was five fights long.

Joaquim Silva, ‘Netto BJJ’, faced Drakkar Klose in a veteran fight. The Brazilian was pressured by the American in the first two parts of the duel, especially on the ground, and was unable to overcome his rival’s strategy. In the third round, Netto BJJ almost won the fight twice, but the submission attempts did not achieve the desired result and, thus, Klose took home the judges’ decision.
