Laser hair removal and botox; She has lupus and does not undergo procedures

As it is a disease of the immune system, which is responsible for producing antibodies, a person can have different types of symptoms in different parts of the body.

Some are general, such as fever, weight loss, loss of appetite, weakness and discouragement. Others are more specific to each organ, such as joint pain, red spots on the skin, inflammation of the pleura, hypertension and kidney problems.

Although the cause of lupus is not known, it is known that genetic, hormonal and environmental factors participate in its development.

As it is a disease that generates inflammation in the skin and organs, injecting substances into the body can alter the cells and reactivate the disease or intensify it. Due to this risk, aesthetic procedures, in general, are always evaluated with caution and in many cases the patient is advised not to perform them.

“Some patients presented serious infections in the regions undergoing the procedure, others have reactivation of the disease, sometimes quite seriously, as the damage to the dermis and hypodermis resulting from the procedure exposes the patient’s tissues to inflammation”, explains Flora D’Andréa Marcolino, rheumatologist at Hospital Sírio-Libanês (SP).

Patients with lupus often have photosensitivity, which means an increased sensitivity to ultraviolet sunlight and, potentially, the light used in laser hair removal treatments. Such exposure can trigger an outbreak of the disease and therefore this procedure is also not recommended.
