Rains in Rio Grande do Sul: more than 10 thousand people were rescued, but there are still stranded residents

Lula was in the state last week and met with the governor, Eduardo Leite (PSDB). On the occasion, he said that there will be no shortage of resources or efforts from the federal government to help the population affected by the rains.

The delegation should embark from Brasília Air Base at around 8am and arrive in Porto Alegre around 10:30am. On a social network, President Lula stated this Saturday that he was in permanent contact with local authorities.

“I am in permanent contact with the ministers and the military command in Rio Grande do Sul. […] I return to the state to monitor and reinforce the work coordinated with the state government and city halls at this difficult time”, published the president.

A report released by Lula on social media reports that the Armed Forces carried out around 10,000 rescue operations in Rio Grande do Sul until this Saturday, involving air, river and land rescues.

At the federal level, the government set up a situation room to monitor actions in the state.

After this Saturday’s meeting, the Civil House informed that the decision taken was to advise governors who are going to send donations to Rio Grande do Sul to send these donations to the military air bases at Galeão (RJ) and Guarulhos (SP) airports so that, From there, the military will sort the donated material and then send it to Rio Grande do Sul.

According to the federal government, the local population needs donations of various items, mainly (at this time): mattresses, bedding and bathroom items.

A new meeting of the group is scheduled for this Sunday.
