On Saturday night, the CBF released audio of the 1-1 draw between Bragantino and Flamengo, a controversial match played at the Nabi Abi Chedid Stadium. Rubro-Negro complained about the annulment of Luan Cândido’s expulsion and asked for a penalty against Luiz Araújo at the end of the match.

After VAR consultation, referee cancels red card for Bragantino’s Luan Cândido against Flamengo

Minas Gerais Paulo Cesar Zanovelli da Silva (Fifa) was the field referee, while Pernambuco native Daniel Nobre Bins (Fifa) was responsible for VAR.

In the communication, Daniel Nobre Bins initially states that there was no lack of De la Cruz in Pedro Henrique and cites “accidental” contact.

– Zanovelli, let’s look at a possible foul in midfield. We are checking the possible lack in the middle. The two are looking at the ball and it accidentally hits – says Bins.

– For me, the contact is accidental too – says another member of the referee who was in the booth.

– During the possible foul, both players are moving and braiding the accidental foot, fully looking at the ball. There is no foul, we are checking the offside – continues Bins.

Bins, however, highlights that De la Cruz could have gained an advantage by tangling with defender Pedro Henrique.

– We have to analyze why he has a tactical advantage – says Bins, who receives the agreement of VAR Assistant, Flávio Gomes Barroca.

– He gains a tactical advantage – says Barroca.

Daniel Nobre Bins tells Paulo Cesar Zanovelli that the “accidental situation causes harm” to Pedro Henrique.

– Zanovelli, I’m going to ask you to review a possible foul because later this player will come out in front of you. It is an accidental situation, but it causes harm to the player. It hits his leg, and that makes the player fall.

After a quick analysis on the VAR monitor, Paulo Cesar Zanovelli makes the decision:

– It really is an unintentional foul. Let the play continue, I want to see the impact. Follow, follow, follow. I’m going to come back, I’m going to get the red card and I’m going to come back with a foul here.

The CBF video also shows Paulo Cesar Zanovelli explaining in Spanish to De la Cruz and thanking Daniel Nobre Bins for the recommendation:

– It was an accidental foul here at the beginning of the play. It was a foul, it was a foul. Acá (here) – says Zanovelli to De la Cruz.

– Bins, thank you, old man. I wasn’t looking, I didn’t see that lack. Thank you – Zanovelli said to Bins.
