Following the record of flooding in the historic center of Porto Alegre, due to the rising waters of the Guaíba River, residents of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul have also reported the appearance of cockroaches on streets in the region. Insects are coming out of manholes and taking over the streets and walls of properties.

The level of Guaíba broke a record (4.96 meters) between the night of Friday, 3rd and the morning of this Saturday, 4th. It is the highest level ever recorded in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, surpassing the historic flood of 1941, with 4.76 meters.

The state is facing its worst climate disaster, with 56 dead and 67 missing. According to a balance released this Saturday morning, there are already 281 municipalities impacted, 377,497 people affected, 24,666 homeless and 8,296 people in shelters. Another 74 people were also injured. The alert situation continues throughout Rio Grande do Sul.

With the flooding of the Guaíba, the Municipal Department of Water and Sewage (Dmae) states that it was necessary to suspend the operations of the Water Treatment Plants (Etas) Moinhos de Vento, São João and Tristeza, on the morning of Saturday, 4. There are also record of power outages and Porto Alegre Airport is closed.
