Leite suffers criticism from gauchos because of cuts in the Civil Defense budget in recent years. In 2022, the area’s budget was R$1 million. In 2023, it increased to R$100 thousand and, for 2024, the approved amount was R$50 thousand.
JThe budget for project management and responses to natural disasters fell from R$6.4 million in 2022 to R$5 million in 2023, and rose again to R$117 million this year – although it is still considered low, as the total government spending forecast for 2024 is R$83 billion.
