Madonna show generates R$400 million; fee is R$ 17 million

Accommodation expenses total 4.85 million; the stage structure, the largest on the “Celebration Tour”, is valued at R$ 1.6 million

North American pop singer Madonna, 65 years old, performs this Saturday (May 4, 2024) on Copacabana beach, in Rio de Janeiro. The show will be free to the public, but the artist will pocket R$17 million for the performance. The total movement, which includes investments, economic turnover, sponsorships, transmission and infrastructure spending, exceeds R$400 million.

In addition to the millionaire fee, international cargo transportation was even more expensive. The cost to bring the necessary equipment for the artist’s show in Brazil was estimated at R$20 million, according to Folha de S.Paulo.

The singer arrived in Brazil on Monday (April 29). Staying in one of the most expensive suites at the Copacabana Palace, the artist and her team occupy 90 of the hotel’s 239 rooms. Estimated spending on accommodation totals R$4.85 million.

The money allocated for the structure of the event is not far behind. The show will have the biggest stage ever used in “Celebration Tour”, which celebrates 40 years of its career. It will be 812 square meters, with a 24-meter front and a ceiling height of 18 meters, with an estimated value of R$1.6 million.

The amount allocated for sound and audio equipment is R$1.5 million. For security, R$580,000 was invested. Another R$877,800 was spent on rehearsals and dressing rooms.

The total amount disbursed by sponsors is around R$60 million, including Rio City Hall and the State government, which released R$10 million each. The other R$40 million is divided between the companies Itaú and Heineken.

Madonna returns to Brazil after 12 years. The artist takes the stage at 9:45 pm. However, for those who want to arrive early, the program will start at 6:45 pm, with DJ Barata. Afterwards, there will be a performance by the special guest, the artist Diplo, at 8pm. The show will be broadcast live on TV Globo, at the Multishow and in Globoplay.

According to Rio City Hall, 1.5 million people are expected to go to the event on Copacabana beach. The initial estimate was 1 million gifts: 850 thousand cariocas and residents of Greater Rio, 120 thousand Brazilian tourists and 30,000 foreigners.

The municipal administration also estimated that the show will boost Rio’s economy by R$293 million. The value is 29 times greater than the R$10 million invested by the city in the event.
