Since April 27th, Mato Grosso do Sul has been experiencing a major heat wave with high temperatures. This atmospheric blockage is considered the most intense in terms of duration. However, to everyone’s relief, the wave should go away this Monday (6).
This is what the red alert from Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology) predicts for the State. However, it is worth remembering that the institute renewed the warning twice.
Mato Grosso do Sul must complete 9 days under the effect of the heat wave, which prevents the arrival of cold fronts, dropping temperatures or causing rain. There is no forecast of significant rainfall in the first two weeks of May in Mato Grosso do Sul.
Inmet’s warning is of great danger in all 79 municipalities, with a risk to health and forest fires. During this period, the temperature is 5°C above average. Unlike the last heat waves to hit the State, this time the characteristics are not so high temperatures and low air humidity.
Shy rains
According to Cemtec (Weather and Climate Monitoring Center), a new cold front is expected to approach, which could favor isolated rain and mild temperatures only in the extreme south and southwest of the state.
The intense mass of hot and dry air should prevent the advance of this cold front to the rest of the municipalities. Despite this, the transport of heat and humidity, combined with a low atmospheric pressure system in Paraguay, can favor the formation of instabilities.
In the historical average of accumulated precipitation, expected for the quarter from May to July, rainfall varies between 50 and 200 mm in the northern half and in the south, southeast and southwest regions between 200 and 400 mm. On the other hand, in the northwest and northeast regions of the State, accumulated precipitation varies between 50 and 100 mm.
According to the monitoring model, the accumulated precipitation rates for the quarter indicate that rainfall will be below the historical average in the State.
