A couple traveled almost three days from a city in the interior of Amazonas to take part in the Unified National Competition in Cruzeiro do Sul. With the postponement of the competition, Luiz Paulo da Silva and Carla Menezes, who live in the city of Envira, regretted the situation, but they sympathized with the emergency in Rio Grande do Sul.
The tests would be administered this Sunday (5), and a new date has not yet been announced. To get to Cruzeiro do Sul, the couple had to travel two days by boat, leaving from Envira, in Amazonas where they live, and almost another day to arrive by bus. In addition to transportation costs, they also had hotel and food expenses.
Silva, who has a degree in gastronomy, highlights that the journey to leave Envira is complicated. It took two days by boat to get to Feijó, in the interior of Acre, and from there the couple got on a bus to Cruzeiro do Sul.
“From Envira, there are only two means of transport: either by plane or by boat. We chose to come by boat, it took us two days to reach Feijó. We stayed in a hotel, paid half a night, and already arranged tickets to come here [Cruzeiro do Sul]. Losses, we haven’t even calculated yet. But, for sure, when we put it on the tip of the pencil, we will have a shock”, he comments.
Carla, who is a pharmacist, remembers that the couple had to balance preparing for the test and their jobs, which made the process even more stressful.
“It was very busy studying, working and preparing, and we hope to finish soon, because we have other things to do after the exams. We say: after the test, I will solve this thing. And now, with the test postponed, we continue in the same saga”, she says.
Now, Luiz Paulo and Carla will travel another three days to return to the city where they live and will have more time to study for the tests.
However, they will also need to make new savings to return to Cruzeiro do Sul when a new date for the “Enem dos competições” is announced.
“We hope, with God’s blessing, that [a nova data] whether in three or four months, so that we can prepare ourselves financially to return and take this exam”, adds Silva.
Despite the expense and exhaustion of traveling to the exam location, Carla and her husband agree with the Ministry of Education’s decision to postpone the competition date.
“I think they are going through a very complicated time, and they would not be able to compete. We are seeing a very big disaster, so we understand”, she concludes.
