Santa Catarina farmers and traditional people interested in selling products for the Food Acquisition Program (PAA) can register, in this first stage, until May 9th on the Santa Catarina website. State Secretariat for Social Assistance, Women and FamilyreadThe(SAS). Delivery is made directly to the social assistance network equipment of the 130 qualified municipalities.

The Secretary of Social Assistance, Women and Family, Maria Helena Zimmermann, explains that to assist farmers with registration, SAS formed a partnership with the Agricultural Research and Rural Extension Company of Santa Catarina (Epagri), which, through its extension agents throughout the state, is helping with the process. “If the farmer has any difficulty, whether with the internet or anything else, they can contact the local Epagri offices and receive guidance and assistance. We want as many farmers as possible to sign up because this is a very important program,” he said.

The PAA notice in Santa Catarina, worth R$10 million, provides for the possibility of purchasing 162 products. Items include fruits and vegetables, baked goods, fish, honey, among others. Each farmer can sell up to R$15,000 through the program and must deliver directly to equipment registered by city halls.

The farmer Paulo Roberto Souza, from Biguaçu, grows vegetables and has already participated in the program and highlights that in PAA sales are guaranteed. “It was very good because we already know that we will sell, it’s not like selling to the market where sometimes we plant, but they don’t buy”, he comments.

The secretary also explains that even if your city has not signed up for the Program, the farmer can register to sell and deliver to any other qualified city, which expands the possibility of participation. In the last notice, 293 farmers were registered and by 2024 the goal is to increase this to 800.

In the last notice, Santa Catarina was also the state in Brazil that had the greatest diversity of items available to be purchased from family farming by the PAA.
