After five days of occupation, social movements left the headquarters of the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (INCRA) in Alagoas on the night of Friday, 3.

The occupation lasted from April 29th. According to the MST press office, the eviction occurred after a meeting with the federal government, which committed to dialogue with the national INCRA about the state’s demands.

Even with the superintendent appointed by Arthur Lira remaining, the movements will continue to press for advances in Agrarian Reform policy in Alagoas, including the creation of new settlements and guarantees for existing ones.

Junior Rodrigues replaces former superintendent César Lira, dismissed in April 2024 after a tenure marked by dissatisfaction among social movements. His appointment, indicated by the president of the Federal Chamber, was not well received by the peasants.

Movements such as the Pastoral Land Commission, the MST and others announced an agenda of permanent mobilization, including street actions, dialogue with society and cultural events such as the Zumbi Agrarian Reform Festival and Dandara dos Palmares, in Maceió.

The appointment of José Ubiratan, a career INCRA employee, to the superintendence, receives significant support from educational institutions linked to Rural Education.
