Seagull does physiotherapy in the water to ‘strengthen his muscles’ in SC
A seagull (Larus dominicanus) rescued with difficulty flying in São Francisco do Sul, on the North Coast of Santa Catarina, was reintroduced to the wild after 62 days of hospitalization.
The treatment steps, recorded by the Univille Marine Animal Stabilization Unit team, responsible for the bird’s care, included water physiotherapy to “exercise limbs and strengthen musicians”, according to the team (watch above).
According to the unit, which is part of the Santos Basin Beach Monitoring Project (PMP-BS), the bird was rescued on February 2, in Praia do Forte, with suspected food poisoning and difficulty taking flight.
Once stabilized, the bird also underwent blood tests, radiography and was fed properly.
She returned to the same beach on April 4, with an “excellent body score”, as well as being “active and flying well”, with no respiratory problems, the team reported. Before releasing her, veterinarians inserted an identification ring into her.
The seagull’s reunion with its natural habitat, filmed by the team that cared for the patient, was released by the unit on Tuesday (30).
