Mainly driven by the services sectorRio Grande do Norte had a balance of 1,415 new formal jobs registered throughout the month of Marchaccording to data released by the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

The balance is the difference between the number of hires (20,842) and dismissals of employees (19,427) in the period.

Also according to the federal government, the state currently has a stock of 504.7 thousand workers with a formal contract.

March’s result was the best among the months of the first quarter of 2024. In January, the state had registered a balance of 1,183 new job openings. In February, there were 241.

The numbers were also better than those of March 2023, when the state recorded a negative balance, with the closure of 82 jobs.

The state ended the first quarter of 2024 with 2,839 vacancies – a much better situation than the first quarter of 2023, which ended with a balance of 40 vacancies.

The Services sector was mainly responsible for the increase in the number of formal jobs in March, in Rio Grande do Norte. The sector generated 9,036 hirings and 6,501 dismissals, resulting in a positive balance of 2,535 vacancies.

The commerce sectors also registered an increase in jobs, with a balance of 954 jobs, followed by construction, responsible for 628 new vacancies.

Contrary to growth, the agricultural sector closed 1,667 jobs and industry, 1,035, throughout March.

Potiguar capital, Natal had a higher balance than that recorded by the state as a whole in March. The city recorded 8,228 admissions against 6,637 dismissals throughout the month, generating a positive balance of 1,591 jobs.

The result was also driven by services. In Natal, the only sector that fired more than it hired was agriculture, which closed 70 vacancies. Among the largest cities in the state, Mossoró and Parnamirim also recorded positive balances.

On the other hand, Baía Formosa, on the southern coast of Rio Grande do Norte, recorded the closure of more than 1,000 job vacancies, practically everyone in the industry sector. As a result, the city lost more than 38.8% of its formal jobs, according to federal government data.
