The Parque das Nações Indígenas won the 1st Solar Flower of Mato Grosso do Sul this Tuesday morning (30). The innovation project that combines sustainability, clean energy and technology serves as a point for charging electronic devices, as well as being an ‘instagrammable’ space for photos and other records.

Built by Agems (State Agency for the Regulation of Public Services of Mato Grosso do Sul) in partnership with Energisa and the State Government, the solar flower is part of the Energy Efficiency Program regulated by Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency).

Director of Innovation and Institutional Relations at Agems, Rejane Monteiro explains that the project was presented in January 2023 and was initially supposed to be on a section of Avenida Afonso Pena. With the scope that the initiative gained, the change of location was made with visibility and other criteria in mind.

“He migrated here to Parque das Nações Indígenas so that people could have this perception of sustainability, of how clean energy is generated and could contemplate this wonderful environment and using clean energy to charge their electronics”, he states.

Measuring 5 meters high and capable of producing up to 40% more energy than a conventional system, the solar flower has solar panels distributed in the shape of petals that will be open from dawn to dusk to capture the sun’s rays. During the morning and afternoon, the equipment must rotate according to the solar movement. These are the main characteristics that enable the flower to capture and produce more clean energy.

Positioned next to the park’s lake, at the ‘Guató’ entrance, the project is not the only novelty on the scene. Three kiosks were built with tables and chairs where sockets are fixed. The president of Energisa, Marcelo Vinhaes Monteiro, highlights that the proposal is for the population to make good use of the entire structure.

“It’s a very beautiful project, designed and built so that when people are in the park they can charge their cell phones, have a tereré, so we hope that it will really be a well-used space”, he comments.

In addition to the flower, the president highlights other projects launched by the Energy Efficiency Program, such as the Camelódromo, which has photovoltaic panels on the building’s upper structure. To the Campo Grande News, Marcelo Vinhaes revealed the next project that should benefit the city. “In the second half of May, we will inaugurate a solar plant that we are building for Santa Casa de Campo Grande”, he says.

Symbolic Delivery – During the launch of the solar flower, the state governor, Eduardo Riedel, emphasized the importance of the project for Mato Grosso do Sul. The structure, according to the governor, meets the management’s proposal to guarantee sustainable solutions for the southern Mato Grosso -grossenses.

“Equipment like this in this tourism space is symbolic, it is a reminder that we are in this moment of energy transition. There are several structural projects and the biggest of them started in Pantanal when we put ‘Ilumina Pantanal’ into practice. Today there are more than 3 thousand families served with photovoltaic generation technology”, tip

During the ceremony, Eduardo Riedel also recalled that the State generates 94% of energy from renewable sources, whether hydraulic, biomass and photovoltaic.

The Solar Flower can now be visited by the public in the Parque das Nações Indígenas.
