Although the search for the installation of a medical course in Joinville by UFSC has resumed the discussion about the return of works on its own campus, on BR-101, it is most likely that the new teaching offering will be done through rented spaces. The informal deadline for the course to be offered is the beginning of 2026 and, in this interval, it is unlikely that work on Curva do Arroz will have been resumed, much less completed. Even partnership with the private sector, in analysis, it will still take longer to be consolidated. With this scenario, there is already a guarantee of a reserve of amendments to cover equipment and possible rental costs.

The deadline for starting classes at the beginning of 2026 is estimated by federal deputy Pedro Uczai (PT), one of the organizers of the public hearing on the topic, together with Darci de Matos (PSD). The Chamber of Deputies Education Committee event was held this week in Joinville. The two deputies committed to transferring R$5 million, each, towards the installation of the course. There are even institutions interested in serving UFSC by renting spaces. The position is to allow classes to begin before the completion of the campus itself.
The installation of the course still has a series of steps ahead, such as approval by the UFSC Council, authorization by the Ministries of Education and Planning, completion of the pedagogical project, implementation of physical structures, hiring of teachers and technicians, approval by the Monitoring Committee and Monitoring of Medical Schools, among other measures.
Work on UFSC’s own campus in Joinville stopped more than a decade ago due to a lack of resources. In 2009, before construction stopped, the university began offering engineering courses in rented spaces, a situation that continues today. Since 2018, the UFSC campus has been located in an industrial condominium, Perini Park.
