With this in mind, pharmacist Thaiz Rodrigues spoke to Acorda Cidade to explain the best ways to treat your animal, mainly regarding the medication administered.
According to her, veterinary compounded medicine is the best option to intervene in necessary cases of care for animals. Its forms in cookies and pastes make it easier for Pets to accept it.
“The manipulated medicine will have the correct dose and ideal pharmaceutical form for each animal. The amount needed for the treatment and a more affordable price too. Personalization allows for safe and more comfortable administration for both the animal and the owner, better adherence to treatment, avoiding waste and ensuring complete treatment,” she explained.

“We buy the raw materials, the isolated liquids of each active ingredient, each medicine and in fully controlled laboratories it will be transformed, manipulated into a final pharmaceutical form, which in the case of veterinary medicine is between pastes, biscuits, capsules , suspensions”.

These norms and standards are required by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) through a license that every professional who handles medicines must have. Therefore, it is important to look for pharmacies licensed to use the service.
In addition to the license, other requirements are levied by Mapa.
“The first is Mapa registration, we also need to have the health permit, issued by the Health Surveillance and the licenses that are more specific, those that allow us to handle controlled medications, antibiotics, cytostatics. We also have a license from the Federal Police, which has some assets that need to be controlled by the Police. And also, certification from the Federal Pharmacy Council”, Thaíz informed Acorda Cidade.
It is important to note that to use compounded medications you must have a medical prescription. For humans and animals, this is an essential recommendation to ensure safe administration of medicines, after all, it is always good to remember that they are also drugs.
In this sense, veterinarians are responsible for examining the animal and prescribing the best medication, only then can it be reformulated by the pharmacist to better serve your pet.
“The professional who is best able to identify what problem the animal has is the veterinarian. He’s the one who studies for this. So, he will identify what the pathology is, what the animal’s needs are and request manipulation according to the prescription he thinks is most appropriate for that patient”, he pointed out.
Furthermore, Thaíz reinforces that compounded medicines that meet this quality standard are completely safe. They are prepared by qualified teams and undergo rigorous quality tests.
