A Ponta Grossa city hall announced measures to combat the increase in dengue cases in the city. During a crisis committee meeting, the Mayor Elizabeth Schmidt reinforced actions and intensified protocols to combat the disease. Among the measures adopted is the opening of three exclusive units to treat dengue cases, which will operate uninterruptedly, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Sentinel units, located in neighborhoods New Russia, Workshops and Uvaranas, will be responsible for caring for patients with a suspected or confirmed diagnosis of the disease. Other health care will be directed to other reference units. In addition, the city hall also announced the reinforcement of the elimination of the mosquito that transmits dengue fever, through teams from the Municipal Health Foundation who are already carrying out home visits in the neighborhoods.

“All together, city hall and population, with intelligence and without demagoguery, we will face and overcome this challenge. Dengue is a preventable problem, and we will have all the tools to reduce the rate of infections and assist people already affected by the disease as quickly as possible. But it requires full commitment from everyone”, warns Elizabeth. To this end, actions will be intensified in the most problematic locations, where there is a greater concentration of mosquitoes and transmission hotspots.

However, the city hall is also demanding that the State government urgently reinforce inputs, such as chemicals and sprinkler pumps, which are supplied exclusively by the State Department of Health. Both the chemicals used to kill the mosquito and the spray pumps sprinkler are provided exclusively by State Department of Health. The product, used to kill mosquitoes, is applied using backpack pumps, but the number available for the city is very low. “We only have three pumps like this, to cover the entire city, and an absurdly low quantity of the product”, informs the president of the Health Foundation, Priscila Degraf.

During the meeting, the mayor tried to speak with the Secretary of State for Health, Beto Preto, but was unsuccessful. “Ponta Grossa urgently needs these inputs and also other measures, including the availability of more hospital beds. This responsibility lies with the State; State regulation controls the entire flow of patients from emergency care units to hospitals. If we have patients still waiting for beds, it is because the regulation is not being effective”, highlights the mayor.

To face the situation, in addition to health agents, members of the Civil defense and employees from other departments, volunteers and students on the preparation course for Municipal guard They will also be involved in reinforcement actions in the most sensitive areas. The mayor emphasized the importance of everyone’s full commitment, both from the city hall and the population, to combat and overcome this challenge.
