She has been facing the problem for at least five years and undergoing treatments.

In 2020, the singer revealed that she was about to begin regenerative treatment to try to restore the cartilage in her knee and alleviate pain that led to the cancellation of a series of tour dates for her album “Madame X”, before the Covid-19 pandemic. During this period, Madonna even used crutches.

According to experts interviewed in a report from the Earth, diseases related to the knee joint are not exclusive to the elderly, although they are more common in this age group. Therefore, anyone should take some precautions to keep their knees healthy throughout their lives.

“In most cases, this occurs due to trauma and excessive overload on the joints, excessive practice or carelessness in physical activities”, explains Dr. Marcos Cortelazo, orthopedist specializing in knee and sports traumatology, member of the Brazilian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SBOT ).

One of the causes of knee injuries is wearing high-heeled shoes. During use the knee is placed in an uncomfortable position that requires continuous flexion. This leads to wear and tear of the patellar cartilage and, consequently, a condition known as chondromalacia, characterized by the softening of the cartilage of the kneecap or patella.
