Thales Bretas pays tribute to Paulo Gustavo three years after the comedian’s death.

In the three years since his death Paulo Gustavothe dermatologist Thales Bretas, the comedian’s widower, published a tribute to her husband. Paulo died on May 4, 2021, at the age of 42, a victim of complications from Covid-19.
On Instagram, Thales published a record of the actor alongside the couple’s children, twins Gael and Romeu, still babies. “Even though I try not to be too bothered by this date, a melancholy overtakes me before, during and after it. Although I don’t talk much publicly about grief, it lives inside me, whether I want it or not,” wrote the dermatologist this Saturday, 4.
Thales described that, over these three years, he learned that Paulo “is and will always be here.” “It transformed me forever, like a birth. While birth is the promise of a new world that reveals itself little by little, death is the certainty that a world has ended abruptly and definitively,” he said.
The dermatologist said that many people ask him how he managed to “overcome” the loss. He, however, stated that “you can’t overcome it, not even time heals it.” “It’s a fact that, for those who stay, life goes on. And I think, I always thought and I will think that there is a lot to live for while we are given this present. A present that revokes the past, reinvents the future… but reveals surprises, every minute .”
“Good times, very bitter times… some are digested in minutes”, he continued. “Others mark you like scars, and make you a completely different person, forever. And what is forever? It’s this interim that we have to process all of this while our world doesn’t turn off our light either… so it’s a little bit of what I feel today.”
Thales stated that, despite knowing that “tomorrow could be different”, he carries “his marks” with him. “They are part of my identity. Never the whole. But part, in my forever, they will always be”, he concluded.
