Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEI) gained an extension in the deadline to register in the Labor Electronic Domicile (DET) system. The new deadline, now set for August 1st, was extended by the government, aiming to provide more time for these entrepreneurs to comply with the obligation without facing penalties.

What is the Labor Electronic Home System?

DET is an online platform, created on the initiative of the Federal Government and managed by the Labor Inspection Secretariat (SIT) of the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE). This system was developed to integrate and simplify communication between the government and employers. Following the guidelines of Article 628-A of the CLT, the DET essentially serves to notify employers about administrative acts, tax actions, and to send documents in administrative processes.

Who needs to register and how important is it?

It is mandatory for all entities that are subject to labor inspection, including those MEIs that do not have registered employees. Registration with the DET not only helps ensure compliance with labor regulations, but also ensures that microentrepreneurs are always informed about possible tax and administrative actions related to their business.

How to avoid penalties?

There are no fines specified by the government for MEI who do not update their registration on time. However, the lack of registration can lead to future fines if, for example, a Labor Auditor issues a notification and there is no response within 15 days. In this case, it is assumed that the notification was received, even if the MEI was not aware of it.

How can MEIs register with DET?

The registration process is done completely online, facilitating access and compliance for micro-entrepreneurs. Initially, it is necessary to access the DET platform website, register in the Gov.br system and follow the instructions to complete the registration. This step by step ensures that the MEI is aligned with regulations and avoids future problems with labor inspection.

Additional tips for good regularization

  • Always keep your contact details and address updated in the system to ensure that all notifications are received.
  • Regularly monitor the DET system for any new communications or requirements.
  • Consult an accountant or accounting professional if you have questions about the registration process or tax and employment obligations in general.

The extension of the deadline for registration in the DET system is an opportunity for MEIs to regularize their situation without haste, thus ensuring the continuity of their business in compliance with labor laws.
