Companies that maintain factories in cities in Rio Grande do Sul announced that they have suspended production at their units amid the rains that have hit the state since last week. The storms caused damage in about one in three municipalities.
Tramontina suspended production at two factories located in the city of Carlos Barbosa, in Serra Gaúcha. In these units there will only be machinery maintenance.
The company, which produces home products, granted collective vacations to four thousand employees. The return is scheduled for the 16th. “Other employees in the administrative and commercial sectors continue to operate, with reduced teams and allowing home office for those who need it”, says the statement.
Two other units that also operate in the city will receive vacations only in some sectors, which are still being defined. Director José Paulo Medeiros says that the granting of vacations will be prioritized for those employees who require greater travel.
Gerdau, the country’s largest steel producer, halted activities in Charqueadas and Riograndense, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, until Sunday (5). “The decision was made with a view to people’s safety and so that employees can be close to their families at this challenging time for the people of Rio Grande do Sul.”
The company guarantees that the stoppage will not affect deliveries to customers, “and that none of the units were impacted by the storms”.
Randoncorp, which produces transport equipment, suspended in-person operations at its units in Caxias do Sul, Farroupilha and Flores da Cunha. The strike continues until Sunday, with a return scheduled for Monday (6). Other company employees will work from home.
